Kansas Sales Tax Rate Change Effective July 1, 2015

July 1, 2015

Starting July 1, the Kansas statewide sales tax increased from 6.15 percent to 6.5 percent, with no exemption for sales tax on food.  This increased rate should be added to all applicable local tax rates to compute the total sales tax rate.  Transition rules are in place for retailers that provided services before the rate change, but billed their customers after the rate change.  The sales tax return provides a rate-increase adjustment as a result of the transition.

Please contact your MarksNelson advisor if you have questions about this increase or need assistance with computing the rate-increase adjustment at (816) 743-7700.
